Following Jesus in nonviolent struggle for justice and peace, we love our neighbors and enemies as God loves us all, becoming a peace church to share in Gods work to save the world.

Axiomatic Truths

View Archives

You can no more maintain in the long run a society in which most people believe that war is morally acceptable than you can maintain a scientific laboratory in which most people believe that 2 times 4 equals 9.  Both of those beliefs contradict axiomatic truths--truths which moral, rational people recognize as true when they see them.
What is the unspoken axiomatic truth in the first instance above?  That it is always wrong to kill people.  Or, stated positively, it is always better to love people than to kill them.
You can substitute slavery, or torture, or violence for war in the first instance, and you will get the same result.
This reflection is grounded in Jesus, the human one, who showed (reminded) humans of things which are true about themselves even when they try to live in contradiction to those things.
Every Church A Peace Church reminds people in the church of some of these axiomatic truths.
