Take a Time In

“Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the Kingdom of God.”  Mark 10:14

Its time-in for Father’s Day. It’s time for all Fathers to take a time-in. Particularly African American fathers; and not because we’ve failed but rather because extra care is needed for our young. Although we are working to recalibrate gender relationships along the line of equality and the depth of mutual appreciation that is actually far deeper than an ethic of mere equality; fathers still maintain a pivotal role in determining the boundaries of life for children and the basic value parameters. The influence of fathers is inestimable. Their impact on the lives of children is limitless and continues far beyond the father’s physical presence. The quality of impact that a father leaves on his child is his lasting legacy on earth when physical existence has long expired. The quality of impact is then your gift to the world or sadly your curse on its future. Fathers are not always conscious of this power. It is often exerted only within a narrow breadth of understanding of its impact and meaning. FATHERS help make of your children noble souls! The goodness you express in their lives multiplies through their efforts and serves to lift the quality of life throughout the world. Change the world Fathers by raising noble-souled young.

So instead of time-out on Father’s day take a time-in. Stay in to find out what your children dream; what they hope for. Tune in to their fears and anxieties and where you can allay them so that they develop into secure and righteous souls. Hear each child from where they are and use your God given limitless power of influence to transform this old world into a new one by how your young are shaped. Each generation renews the human venture and each owes many of its strengths and weaknesses to the generation before. Bequeath to your children a legacy of love, through attentiveness, solid values, deep commitments and care for a world in dire need for a generation such as these.
